"I wanted to have a shop where I could teach people how to fly fish, to bring people into the sport and mentor them along."

Oftentimes, fly fishing is so difficult to get started in, if you're not mentored along, the learning curve is so difficult that people drop out because there's just so much to know and so much to learn that it can be a bit overwhelming. But, if you come into the sport and somebody teaches you along, mentors you along and keeps the enthusiasm going, its just much easier to stay involved. There's not a lot of places that will take the time with beginners to do that. So we do a lot of seminars and provide a lot of opportunities for education. It's a passion of ours.

Paul's Story

"I started fly fishing in 1975, when I was in high school; I always loved to fish but I was introduced to fly fishing by a new friend. I immediately started catching bigger fish, and more fish, than I had ever caught before. I started getting more and more involved in it and it became a passion.

I was blessed to get turned onto some really amazing places, like Montana and all over the northwest, even some international locations. I was living in Yakima, WA, and I started fly fishing out in the desert lakes, Yakima river and that general area. Pretty soon we started looking off into Montana, so from the late seventies and into the eighties I made several trips to Montana and North-Central Washington. I've been to Alberta, Canada, and expanded into not just trout, but salmon and steelhead. In the nineties, I was able to make a three week trip to New Zealand and go trout fishing on both Islands.

I moved down to The Dalles in 2007. We came down for a job change and because we found out how great the fishing is here. Several years later, I got the opportunity to open up this fly shop. That was over six years ago. The driving force behind opening this fly shop was that I wanted to have a shop where I could teach people how to fly fish, to bring people into the sport and mentor them along."
